Yakubu Maikyau, the president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), presented 10,050 pieces of personal protective equipment (PPEs) to the Garki Hospital in Abuja, citing his desire to support healthcare providers in their work.
In his Kebbi State, Maikyau claimed to have been doing medical outreaches in conjunction with medical professionals who he regarded as performing well, particularly his relationship with the Medicare Foundation and others.
He claimed that providing medical care had always been in his nature.
The NBA president declared, “We are glad to see improvements. This is the beginning of a strong relationship with the hospital management.
“I actually thought that I will come here quietly and do what we need to do, but I quickly reminded myself that this is the public and that my coworkers will not be pleased with me because I didn’t intend to do this in my capacity but in the capacity of the NBA and I intend to understand that one cannot begin to separate himself from that of the office that he is occupying. I’m not a medical professional, but when I first started out, I was on the verge of pursuing a career in medicine. However, perhaps God has provided me with the opportunity to accomplish what I would have done if I were a medical doctor.
“We are doing this because saving the lives of others means sacrificing our own, thus it is better to do everything you can to save their lives.” Since we must continue to make our own small contributions in order for you to live your own lives and continue to enjoy them, we believe that we are helping you to continue doing what you must.
“So, this is one of the reasons we’ve come to support you in what you’re doing, and we also want to appease our colleagues on the National Health Insurance to be treated well, too. It is a way of stating that because we haven’t heard any complaints from this place, let us encourage you to do more.
