Members of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Udu, Delta State, led by David Omage, successfully apprehended Olubuwe Ossai Silas, who had been posing as a lawyer under the name Simon Sabuke. Silas was caught in the act of affixing a lawyer’s seal to legal documents and attempting to use the names of legitimate lawyers.
Following the arrest, NBA Udu Branch Chairman, Edmund Odohisi, filed a formal complaint at the Ovwian Police Station, where Silas is now in custody. The Divisional Police Officer assured Odohisi that the case would be thoroughly investigated and serve as a warning to others engaging in similar fraudulent activities.
Odohisi reaffirmed the NBA’s firm stance against quacks and impersonators within the legal profession, stressing that the full force of the law must be applied in this case. The Udu Branch has consistently taken steps to protect the integrity of the legal profession, previously warning against the illegal use of NBA car stickers by non-lawyers. This latest action further underscores the NBA’s commitment to maintaining professionalism and integrity within the legal community.
