The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has revealed that the number of metered electricity customers in Nigeria rose to 6.97 million by the end of the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2025, reflecting continued growth in electricity metering across the country.
According to figures published by the NBS, the total reached 6.97 million in Q4 2025, representing a 4.58 per cent increase from the 6.66 million recorded in the previous quarter. On a year-on-year basis, the number of metered electricity customers grew by 12.18 per cent, compared with 6.21 million in Q4 2024.
The report also showed that the total number of electricity customers stood at 12.16 million during Q4 2025, up from 12.03 million in Q3 2025, marking a 1.11 per cent quarterly increase. However, compared with 13.30 million customers recorded in Q4 2024, the figure represents an 8.52 per cent year-on-year decline.
For the third quarter of 2025, total electricity customers increased from 11.66 million in Q2 to 12.03 million, reflecting a 3.21 per cent quarterly rise. Despite this improvement, the figure remained 2.98 per cent lower than the 12.40 million recorded in the corresponding period of 2024.
The NBS further reported that metered electricity customers increased from 6.35 million in Q2 2025 to 6.66 million in Q3, representing a 4.93 per cent quarterly rise and a 7.78 per cent increase compared with 6.18 million in Q3 2024. During the same period, the number of estimated customers reached 5.37 million, up 1.15 per cent from 5.31 million in Q2, although it declined by 13.68 per cent from 6.22 million recorded a year earlier.
In addition, electricity distribution companies (DisCos) generated ₦570.26 billion in revenue during Q3 2025, compared with ₦563.98 billion in Q2. This represents a 14.43 per cent increase over the ₦498.35 billion collected in Q3 2024. Meanwhile, electricity supply fell to 6,158.52 GWh in Q3 2025 from 6,449.82 GWh in the previous quarter, representing a 1.45 per cent year-on-year decline.
