The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has announced plans to begin issuing the Nigerian Content Trainers Registration Certificate (NCTRC) as part of efforts to strengthen local expertise and improve professional standards in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.
The initiative was unveiled during a sensitisation workshop held in Lagos with members of the Oil and Gas Trainers Association of Nigeria (OGTAN).
Speaking at the event, Felix Omatsola Ogbe, Executive Secretary of the NCDMB, represented by Sheba Olugbenga, General Manager of the Infrastructure and Capacity Building Directorate, explained that the Nigerian Content Trainers Registration Certificate was designed to create a structured certification system for trainers. He said the programme would ensure that only qualified and competent professionals are responsible for developing the industry’s workforce.
According to him, the success of the oil and gas industry depends heavily on the quality of human capital available, making the competence of trainers essential to sustainable Nigerian Content development.
He noted that rapid technological progress, changing industry demands and emerging innovations across the sector have increased the need for standardised and sustainable capacity-building programmes within Nigeria.
“The constantly changing services and requirements in the oil and gas industry and its linkage sectors, driven by technological advancements and smart innovations, have created the need for strategic and sustainable in-country capacity development and standardization,” he stated.
During an interactive session, Abayomi Bamidele, Director of Capacity Building at NCDMB, warned prospective applicants against dealing with agents or middlemen who claim they can speed up the certification process. He stressed that the Nigerian Content Trainers Registration Certificate application process is completely free and should be completed through official channels.
Bamidele also revealed plans to incorporate selected training tools and course templates into the curriculum of the Nigerian Content Academy (NCA) to support specialised workforce training.
The Nigerian Content Trainers Registration Certificate will cover eleven areas of specialisation, including both technical and soft-skill competencies relevant to the industry.
