On Monday, the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) began a three-day training and orientation program in small stock (goat) production for 50 selected adolescents from Taraba State.
During the event in Jalingo, the state coordinator of the directorate, Alhaji Danjuma Shehu, noted that the idea was based on the economic and business value chain relevance of animal production.
According to him, teaching youngsters in goat production technology along its value chain has become critical, given the farming communities’ important role in the socioeconomic, environmental, and religious lives in terms of income and food supply for the local people and the country at large.
“In terms of income and food supply for the local population and the country at large, the goat production business along the value chain plays an important role in the socioeconomic, environmental, and religious life of farming communities.”
“The potential inherent in goat production business includes meat, milk, and manure production, which is why the directorate has decided to train youth in the practice.”
“The idea is also aimed at revamping agriculture to boost food and fiber production, as well as provide job opportunities for agricultural graduates and school leavers,” he stated.
Mr Yusuf Adamu, one of the participants, guaranteed the directorate on their behalf that they would make the directorate proud by improving their lives through the goat business model to become employers of labor.
