The Rigasa electricity project has begun, raising hopes of ending a 15-year blackout in the Kaduna State community and improving power supply.

The Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited (NDPHC) has commenced work on the electricity infrastructure project in Rigasa, Igabi Local Government Area. The Bola Ahmed Tinubu Ideological Group (BAT-IG) facilitated the initiative to expand access to electricity for residents and businesses.

The project includes a two-kilometre 11kV power line, a 1.5-kilometre 33kV line and a 7.5MVA, 33/11kV injection substation. The facilities are designed to strengthen electricity distribution and improve supply across the community.

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, represented by his deputy, Dr Hadiza Balarabe, performed the groundbreaking ceremony. He praised NDPHC for the intervention, describing it as a life-saving initiative that would address Rigasa’s long-standing electricity challenges.

NDPHC Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Jennifer Adighije, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to improving electricity access in the area. Represented by Executive Director of Networks, Engr. Bello Babayo Bello, she also restated NDPHC’s support for President Bola Tinubu’s vision of improving power supply nationwide.

Adighije explained that although the company’s primary mandate is power generation, its work also covers transmission and distribution infrastructure. These interventions help address network gaps and extend electricity access to underserved communities.

She described the Rigasa electricity project as a worthwhile investment that could ease residents’ difficulties and show how targeted infrastructure development can benefit communities with limited power supply.

NDPHC Executive Director of Strategy and Commercial, Hon. Patrick Obahiagbon, thanked the Kaduna State Government and residents for their cooperation and support.

The District Head of Rigasa, Mohammed Aminu Idris, also commended NDPHC’s management for its commitment to expanding electricity access.

The Rigasa electricity project offers hope for residents and businesses, although its impact will depend on the completion of the infrastructure and the delivery of reliable power.

Could improved electricity supply help businesses grow and raise living standards in underserved Nigerian communities?
