The National Economic Council (NEC) has issued a one-week ultimatum to three states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to submit their reports on establishing state police. NEC had earlier resolved to adopt a unified report from all 36 states and the FCT to facilitate the implementation of state policing.

The council warned that any state failing to comply by the deadline would be bound by decisions made on the matter.

This initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s February 2024 endorsement of state policing as recommended by governors to combat the nation’s escalating insecurity. States were instructed to submit their reports for NEC’s deliberation and subsequent action.
