Taraba disaster relief received a major boost as the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Taraba State Emergency Management Agency (TSEMA) expanded humanitarian support to communities affected by communal clashes and natural disasters.
The joint intervention covered 23 communities across Kurmi, Takum, Zing, Jalingo and Bali local government areas. Around 300 households displaced by communal clashes in Chanchangi, Yamma, Kufai Amadu, Mamie Market, Rubar and Sufa communities in Takum Local Government Area received relief materials, including rice, maize, spaghetti, vegetable oil, tomato paste, iodised salt, seasoning cubes, mats, wax prints and guinea brocade fabrics.
The agencies also extended support to victims of rainstorms and windstorms in Zing Local Government Area, covering Zing A, Zing B, Sabon Peggi, Monkin A, Monkin B, Bitako, Bubong and Yakoko communities. In Jalingo Local Government Area, flood victims in Jolly Nyame Garden City, Green Beach, Mayo Dassa, behind Excellent Academy, Mayogwoi, Nasarawo Culvert and Nunkai also received emergency assistance.
In Kurmi Local Government Area, residents of Bissaulla affected by a recent communal clash benefited from food and non-food items distributed by a joint NEMA-TSEMA team led by Malut Adam Hussain, who represented NEMA Director-General Hajiya Zubaida Umar. He conveyed the Federal Government’s sympathy to affected families and reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to providing emergency support during disasters and conflicts.
NEMA Yola Operations Office Head, Mr Ladan Ayuba, encouraged communities to strengthen disaster preparedness to reduce future flood risks. TSEMA Executive Secretary, Dr Echuseh Audu, represented by Director of Administration Mr Sani Maisukwati, praised NEMA’s swift response and commended Governor Agbu Kefas for supporting the prompt delivery of relief materials. She said the distribution was supervised by agency officials, security personnel and community leaders to ensure transparency and accountability.
The agency also assessed windstorm damage in Suntai, Bali Local Government Area, before distributing relief items to affected households. The Tii of Suntai, HRH Dauda Haruna Umaru, and Village Head Mr Peter Makwa Matsayi thanked the Federal Government and the Taraba State Government for the timely intervention. The Taraba disaster relief exercise reflects continued collaboration between both governments to strengthen emergency response and support affected communities.
