Bababtunji Wusu –
The number of individuals killed in an airstrike by the Nigerian Army at Tudun Biri village in the Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State has been made public by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
In an interview with Channels TV, NEMA’s zonal spokeswoman for the North-West, Halima Suleiman, stated that the bombing on Sunday left 85 people dead and 66 more injured.
Halima claims that following the victims’ Monday burial, the local authorities provided the death toll.
“The Northwest Zonal Office has received information from the local authorities indicating that 85 dead bodies have been buried thus far while a search is still ongoing,” the speaker said.
To get to the village, emergency personnel were still attempting to defuse tensions with local authorities.
President Bola Tinubu, meanwhile, has launched an inquiry after the military admitted that one of its drones unintentionally hit Tudun Biri hamlet when the locals were enjoying a Muslim holiday.
“President Tinubu describes the incident as very unfortunate, disturbing, and painful, expressing indignation and grief over the tragic loss of Nigerian lives,” the presidential spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, stated in a statement released on Tuesday.
