In a letter to the National Assembly, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu asked for a change to the 2022 supplementary appropriation Act that would allow the Federal Government to use N500 billion as a palliative to lessen the impact of subsidy elimination.

The President stated that the money will come from the N819. 5 billion supplementary appropriation act for 2022 in a letter that was read aloud on the House floor during Wednesday’s plenary.

“I write to request the approval of the House of Representatives for an amendment of the 2022 appropriation act in accordance with the law,” the letter titled: “Request for the Amendment of the 2022 Appropriation Act” says in part.

“The request has become essential in order to secure funding for the provision of essential palliatives to

lessen the impact of Nigeria’s recent suspension of gasoline subsidies.

The 2022 appropriation act of N819.536 only included the sum of N500 billion for the distribution of palliatives to Nigerians to lessen the impact of the elimination of gasoline subsidies. I anticipate that the House will review the request right away.

The House would review the President’s request on Thursday during plenary, the Speaker announced, and he urged members who planned to contribute to be ready to do so.
