On Monday, a Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed a lawsuit brought by Chief Ambrose Albert Owuru, a former candidate for president of the Hope Democratic Party (HDP), challenging the selection of President Muhammadu Buhari, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, in the 2019 presidential election.

Justice Inyang Edem Ekwo dismissed the lawsuit that called for the immediate dismissal of President Buhari for three main reasons.

Some of the arguments are that the lawsuit was a flagrant abuse of the legal system, was time-barred, and insulted the authority of the Nigerian Supreme Court.

Justice Ekwo also ruled that the entire lawsuit was baseless, frivolous, annoying, and vexatious.

In the lawsuit, Owuru had asked the judge to issue a declaration that the presidency was vacant and swear him in as the legitimate election winner.

Details to follow.
