Former President Goodluck Jonathan is safe and under protection in Guinea-Bissau following the country’s recent military coup, a senior government official has confirmed.

According to Vanguard, a source who spoke on Thursday under anonymity revealed that Nigerian authorities are activating plans to bring Jonathan back home.

The insider disclosed that a multinational task force, which includes Nigerian security personnel, has been deployed in Guinea-Bissau to shield Jonathan and other Nigerian officials in the country.

“Nigeria is taking the necessary steps to ensure their security and facilitate their return,” the source said.
