Legal proceedings are underway at Mold Crown Court, where Gift Oladele, a 24-year-old man originally from Nigeria, has formally entered a plea of not guilty regarding an alleged incident in Wrexham. Oladele, who operates a cleaning business in Manchester, currently faces two counts of rape and one count of sexual assault following a report from a teenage woman late last year.
According to the case presented by prosecutor James Coutts, the incident allegedly occurred after the 19-year-old victim had been on a night out. The prosecution claims that Oladele intercepted the woman on a main road, covering her mouth with his hand before forcing her down a path into a wooded area.
The court heard harrowing testimony from the complainant, who described the psychological impact of the encounter. “I’m frozen. I felt like I couldn’t move because I knew what was coming,” she told the jury. She further alleged that during the struggle, she was struck several times and that her clothing was forcibly damaged during the assault.
The defense maintains that Gift Oladele is innocent of the charges. While the prosecution has detailed the woman’s account of being “terrified” and physically overpowered, the trial will continue to examine the forensic evidence and witness testimonies to determine the facts of the case.
As the Mold Crown Court trial progresses, the jury will be tasked with weighing these serious allegations against the defendant’s denial. The case has drawn significant attention as it highlights the ongoing concerns regarding safety during night-time hours in local communities.
