The Nigerian military has dealt a major blow to Boko Haram with the killing of a senior commander during sustained clearance operations in the North-East.

Credible military sources disclosed to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that troops neutralised Abu Khalid, identified as the second-in-command of the Boko Haram Terrorists’ (BHT) faction operating within the Sambisa Forest.

Sources said Abu Khalid was a central figure in the group’s command-and-control structure, and his elimination has significantly weakened terrorist operations in the notorious enclave.

According to the military, the slain commander coordinated high-profile attacks, oversaw logistics, and directed the movement of fighters across several parts of the North-East. His death, the sources noted, represents a substantial gain for ongoing counter-terrorism efforts in the region.

The military reaffirmed its resolve to sustain the offensive until all terrorist elements are completely dismantled. It also called on remaining insurgents to surrender their weapons and embrace peace.
