African leaders Bola Tinubu, Aliko Dangote, a millionaire business magnate, and Victor Osimhen, a striker for Napoli, are among the 100 most influential people in Africa for 2023.
The World Trade Organization’s director-general, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the president of the African Development Bank, Akinwunmi Adesina, and Grammy Award-winning singer, Damini Ogulu—better known by his stage name, Temilade Openiyi, aka Tems—were also listed among the top 100 influential people on the continent in the list, which was released by New African Magazine on Tuesday.
According to the magazine, the ranking was created to honor Africans who, through their achievements and efforts in a variety of sectors and industries, have had a beneficial impact on the continent and the rest of the globe.
Speaking on the ranking, the publisher stated, “The list features a diverse and inspiring group of men and women, who have demonstrated excellence, innovation, leadership, resilience, and vision in their respective domains. They include politicians, entrepreneurs, industrialists, environmentalists, creatives, scientists, educators, sports personalities, and more.
“The list also reflects the shifting trends and priorities in Africa, as the continent faces new challenges and opportunities in the post-pandemic era.”
“Creatives dominate the ranking with 31 representatives,” he disclosed further.
Nigeria was the country with the highest presence on the list, the magazine added, highlighting its dominance in business and the creative industries.
In addition to Tinubu, the presidents of the African Development Bank, Okonjo-Iweala, and Kenya’s William Ruto were included in the 2023 list of the 100 most influential Africans in politics and public service.
The Confederation of African Football President, Patrice Motsepe, and Osimhen, who was just voted African Player of the Year, were chosen the notable sporting persons of the year for 2023.
In the business area, the magazine ranked Dangote as one of the most influential Africans, and Nigerian musicians Burna Boy and Tems received recognition for their contributions to the creative industry.
Remember that on May 29, 2023, Tinubu emerged victorious over his principal rivals, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party and Peter Obi of the Labour Party, to become the president of Nigeria.
Burna Boy overcame four rivals to win the Best Global Music Album award at the 63rd Grammy Awards in 2021.
