- New Energy Record Surpasses Previous High by 3,484.60 MWH
- TCN Successfully Transmits Peak Power to Distribution Networks
- Despite Milestone, Power Sector Still Faces Major Hurdles
Nigeria’s electricity generation has soared to a new all-time high of 5,543.20 megawatts (MW) as of Friday, February 14, 2025, according to the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
TCN disclosed this in a statement to journalists on Wednesday, revealing that the latest peak output surpasses the 5,478.73 MW recorded on Thursday, February 13, 2025.
The company also announced a new Maximum Daily Energy record of 125,159.48 megawatt-hours (MWH)—a significant leap of 3,484.60 MWH from the previous 121,674.88 MWH set on February 7, 2025.
“TCN successfully transmitted the new peak generation and maximum daily energy to the load centres of distribution companies across the country for onward supply to consumers,” the statement read.
However, despite this milestone, Nigeria’s power sector continues to struggle with electricity shortfalls, infrastructure decay, and mounting debts, hindering efforts to achieve a stable and reliable power supply.
