Nine commuters were killed and 22 were injured in traffic accidents in Bauchi and Ogun states yesterday.
Six persons were killed and 16 were critically injured in the Bauchi incident.
Yesterday morning’s incident on the Kafin Madaki-Ningi Highway at Sabuwar Miya featured a white Toyota Hiace bus from the state government’s fleet.
Yusuf Abdullahi, Sector Commander of the Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC), stated that tyre burst was the most likely cause of the crash, adding that the victims were taken to Kafin Madaki General Hospital for confirmation of death, while the injured were referred to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) for treatment.
The Ogun crash involved passengers returning home for the holidays, three of whom perished and six were injured.
The tragedy occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, roughly a kilometer from the long Kara Bridge.
The incident involved eighteen people, 11 of whom escaped unharmed, according to the FRSC, Ogun State Sector Command.
A Toyota Hiace bus and an unidentified vehicle were involved in the collision.
Florence Okpe, Superintendent Route Commander and Command spokesman, acknowledged the accident, attributing it to excessive speed on the part of the bus driver, who attempted but failed to overtake the truck.
According to Okpe, the bus driver lost control and collided into the back of the vehicle.
She stated that the unaffected vehicle continued to move.
According to her, the injured were hospitalized, while the deceased were brought to a morgue in Sagamu.
