NIS Warns Nigerians Against Fake Immigration Websites

NIS official website remains the only safe platform for immigration services, as the agency warned the public against scammers and fake online portals.

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) issued the warning on Thursday through its official social media platforms in Abuja, urging Nigerians and foreign nationals to use only authorised websites for passport, visa and other immigration services. The service said the advisory became necessary to protect applicants from fraudulent websites created to deceive unsuspecting users and steal their personal information.

According to the NIS, passport applications should only be processed through its official passport portal. The agency also explained that separate official platforms are available for visa applications at Nigerian embassies, electronic visa (e-Visa) services, Temporary Work Permit (TWP) applications and the Combined Expatriate Residence Permit and Aliens Card (eCERPAC).

The service advised members of the public to remain alert and avoid dealing with unauthorised websites or individuals claiming to represent the Nigeria Immigration Service or offering to speed up immigration processes. It stressed that applicants should access services only through approved online platforms to reduce the risk of fraud and protect sensitive personal information.

The NIS also announced that its Mobile Application for Contactless Passport Application is available for download on Apple iOS and the Google Play Store, providing a secure and convenient option for passport processing.

Reaffirming its commitment to protecting the integrity of its digital services, the agency urged applicants to verify the authenticity of any website before making payments or submitting personal details. It also advised the public to rely only on information released through its official communication channels.
