Members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Tuesday began assembling at the Congress Secretariat in Abuja ahead of a nationwide protest against the worsening insecurity across the country.

Early arrivals included the NLC President, Joe Ajaero, alongside several civil society activists who have aligned with the protest. Prominent among them is Omoyele Sowore and members of the Revolution Now Movement, who joined labour leaders in demanding urgent action to address the nation’s security challenges.

Security agencies have taken positions around the venue, with personnel drawn from the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Department of State Services (DSS) deployed to maintain order.

The gathering follows the NLC’s earlier announcement fixing December 17 for the commencement of a nationwide protest to draw attention to the persistent insecurity affecting lives, livelihoods, and economic activities across Nigeria.
