The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has given the Federal Government until October 27, 2026, to meet workers’ demands or face a possible nationwide strike that could disrupt economic activities.
The union’s Acting General Secretary, Benson Upah, announced the deadline in a statement on Thursday after a meeting with the Minister of Labour.
The NLC is demanding a reduction in petrol prices and an increase in the national minimum wage, which currently stands at ₦70,000.
Petrol prices have reached as high as ₦1,429 per litre, according to the information provided by the union.
Following the meeting, the NLC said the Federal Government had made no concrete commitments to address its demands.
As a result, the union said the issues remained unresolved.
