Babatunji Wusu –
The National Electricity Workers Union closed the Kano Electricity Distribution Company’s headquarters on Post Office Road in the major metropolis on Tuesday morning (today), adhering to the two-day warning strike called by the Nigeria Labour Congress.
Recall that on August 31, 2023, the National Executive Council of the NLC decided to start a two-day warning strike at the conclusion of its meeting.
The union gave the get-ahead for all of its affiliate members to go on strike starting on Tuesday, May 5, through Wednesday, May 6, 2023.
The Federal Government’s elimination of fuel subsidies without proper consultation with important stakeholders is the target of the strike.
This is in addition to its failure to offer appropriate and efficient methods to mitigate the effects of the financial hardship brought on by the loss of the subsidy.
Sani Bala, Head of Corporate Communications at KEDCO, acknowledged the development when contacted and noted that it is fully compliant with the NLC’s instruction.
Comrade Ado Riruwai, vice chairman of the NLC in Kano State, who is leading the enforcement effort, responded by confirming that all state government offices had been closed.
