  • Allegations of 200 Million Litres Importation Are Baseless
  •  No Quality Issues with Fuel Nationwide
  • Legal Action Underway Against Peddlers of False Reports

The Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC), Mele Kyari, has dismissed claims that the company imported Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) in 2025, describing them as entirely false.

Speaking at the 60th Nigeria Mining and Geosciences Society (NMGS) Conference in Abuja, Kyari stated that NNPC had not imported a single litre of PMS since the beginning of the year. His remarks were conveyed in a statement by the company’s spokesperson, Olufemi Soneye, on Tuesday.

Refuting allegations that NNPC brought in 200 million litres of petrol in late February 2025, Kyari labeled such claims as deliberate misinformation. He also assured Nigerians that there were no quality concerns regarding the fuel supplied across the country.

“The ongoing chatter about fuel quality is nothing but unnecessary drama and a poor marketing ploy. Drama may entertain the public, but it does not change the facts,” Kyari asserted.

He further emphasized that regulatory agencies had not flagged any concerns about substandard fuel. “These agencies are carrying out their duties, and none have reported that we have low-quality products in circulation,” he added.

Kyari revealed that NNPC had taken legal and security steps to counter false narratives aimed at damaging its reputation, stressing that such misinformation harms the entire country, not just the company.

“People may have grievances, but that should not justify spreading lies. We did not import any products within the timeline mentioned in that report. Linking this fictitious importation to an alleged fuel quality issue is baseless,” he said.

Addressing a viral video comparing NNPC fuel with that of the Dangote refinery, Kyari dismissed it as “sensationalism and another example of deceptive marketing.”
