Mr. Ben Kure, chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kaduna State, has resigned from both positions and from the party.
Kure provided more details about his resignation on Thursday during a news conference in Kaduna, saying the party has gone off course.
Even while he continued to hold Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the party’s presidential candidate, in high respect, he insisted that he was no longer a party member.
“To be completely honest, NNPP is not present in the state. One cannot run for governor and seek to be the party’s leader at the same time. It won’t function. That was the primary motivator for many of them leaving. I also chose the honorable course of resignation.
“Now that I’ve done everything I could, it’s time to continue living my life. I had an unpleasant encounter with the NNPP in Kaduna. I never intend to interact with the bulk of the state exco members.
“I, therefore, like to notify you, as well as all of my friends and supporters, that I have resigned from my position as Kaduna State Chairman of the NNPP and am no longer a party member. I’ll take a break, consider my options for running for office, and then properly notify the people.
“I want to let you know that on December 5, 2022, I forwarded my letter of resignation to the National Secretariat, but I was persuaded to continue in order to resolve everything amicably.
The gubernatorial candidate and his supporters refused to follow the National secretariat’s directive, he told journalists at the conference. “We were invited and held a meeting, and last week the national secretariat ordered us to meet and plan for the state rally and solidarity walk under my leadership,” he said.
