IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has urged North-West states to strengthen cooperation and intelligence sharing to tackle insecurity across the region.
Disu made the call on Wednesday in Gusau, Zamfara State, while opening the North-West Security Summit, which brought together governors, traditional rulers, security chiefs, experts, development partners and civil society groups.
The summit focused on major security concerns, including banditry, kidnapping, arms proliferation, communal conflicts and farmer-herder tensions.
Disu stressed that no single agency, government or institution could resolve the region’s security challenges alone. He called for closer inter-state cooperation, coordinated security operations, better border controls, stronger community engagement and effective early-warning systems.
The police chief also highlighted the importance of traditional institutions and local communities in providing reliable intelligence and helping authorities prevent crime.
He warned security stakeholders against ethnic and religious profiling, stressing that criminal activity should not be linked to any particular ethnic or religious group. Instead, he urged authorities to identify and prosecute criminal networks, their sponsors, arms suppliers, informants and other facilitators.
The IGP reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to intelligence-led policing, technology-driven operations, rapid response and stronger collaboration among security agencies.
Disu also challenged participants to ensure the three-day summit produces practical and measurable solutions capable of improving security and protecting vulnerable communities across the North-West.
