Cargo activities at Nigeria’s major seaports recorded a fresh uptick as no fewer than eight vessels berthed at the Lekki, Tin-Can Island and Apapa ports in Lagos, awaiting clearance to discharge critical consignments.

The development was disclosed in the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Shipping Position report released to journalists in Lagos on Tuesday.

According to the report, the vessels are carrying bulk commodities including urea, sugar, gypsum, base oil and empty containers, underscoring sustained import activity across the Lagos port corridors.

The NPA further revealed that 28 additional ships are expected to arrive at the Apapa, Lekki and Tin-Can Island ports between January 27 and February 6, intensifying maritime traffic within the period. These incoming vessels will convey petroleum products, food items and other essential cargoes.

Items listed among the expected consignments include bulk wheat and gypsum, fresh fish, petrol, bulk gas, crude oil and containerised goods.

Meanwhile, port operations remain active, with 22 vessels currently discharging cargoes at the ports. These consignments range from containers, crude oil and alkaline substances to base oil, bulk clinker, wheat, gypsum, urea and empty containers.

The NPA noted that the steady inflow and discharge of cargoes reflect ongoing efforts to sustain port efficiency and meet national supply demands.
