The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has confirmed that 21 vessels are currently discharging petroleum products and assorted cargoes across major Lagos ports, signaling sustained maritime traffic and steady import flows into the country.

The disclosure was contained in the authority’s daily Shipping Position bulletin released in Lagos on Saturday.

According to the NPA, the vessels are actively offloading consignments at Apapa Port, Lekki Deep Sea Port and Tin Can Island Port. The shipments include aviation fuel, premium motor spirit (petrol), diesel, bulk gas, cargo trucks and bulk wheat.

Other cargoes being handled at the ports comprise bulk alkaline materials, general cargo, sugar, fresh fish, soya bean oil, clinker and containerised goods, reflecting a mix of energy supplies and essential commodities.

The authority further revealed that 41 additional vessels laden with petroleum products, food items and assorted goods are scheduled to berth at Lagos ports between February 28 and March 7.

The incoming vessels are expected to convey general cargo, bulk wheat, sugar, crude oil, fertiliser, salt, containerised goods and petrol, a development that could ease supply pressures across key sectors of the economy.

Meanwhile, 17 vessels carrying bulk urea, diesel, aviation fuel, crude oil, ethanol, bulk wheat, general cargo and bulk pallets have already arrived but are currently awaiting berthing clearance at the ports.

The steady influx of vessels underscores the strategic role of Lagos ports as Nigeria’s primary maritime gateway and a critical hub for petroleum and food imports.
