NSCDC Arrests Three Over Alleged Cable Theft in Iwo

NSCDC arrests three over alleged cable theft in Agbona Village, Iwo, Osun State, after security officers reportedly caught the suspects with electrical cables removed during road construction.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Osun State Command, said it arrested three men over the alleged theft and sale of the cables.

The suspects are Taliatu Olunlade, 60, Wasiu Olunlade, 25, and Ganiyu Ayomide, 22.

NSCDC personnel from the corps’ division in Agbona Village, Iwo, made the arrests on Friday, 4 September 2026.

According to the command, the suspects allegedly took electrical cables that workers had temporarily removed during road construction activities in the area.

The State Commandant, Toma Mathew Enya, disclosed the arrests during a press briefing at the Osun NSCDC headquarters in Osogbo on Monday.

He said the command had moved against the alleged theft after receiving information about the cables.

The NSCDC has not yet disclosed the quantity or estimated value of the cables allegedly stolen. It has also not said whether the suspects have been charged in court.

However, the arrests highlight concerns over the theft of public infrastructure during construction and maintenance work.

Electrical cables remain essential to power distribution and other public services. Their theft can disrupt projects, increase costs and expose communities to safety risks.

Meanwhile, the NSCDC is expected to continue its investigation into the case. The suspects may also face prosecution if investigators establish sufficient evidence against them.

The development comes as security agencies across Nigeria continue efforts to protect public infrastructure from vandalism and theft.
