The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), in coordination with Search and Recovery partners, has successfully retrieved the Flight Data Recorder (FDR) and Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) from the wreckage of the Sikorsky SK76 helicopter that recently crashed.
NSIB’s Director of Public Affairs and Family Assistance, Mrs. Bimbo Oladeji, announced the recovery in a statement on Friday in Lagos.
Earlier, the NSIB had confirmed the recovery of five bodies from the eight individuals onboard the ill-fated Eastwind Aviation helicopter, which crashed while transporting passengers.
On October 31, the bureau revealed it had located the helicopter’s wreckage. Since the incident, the NSIB and its partners have conducted an intensive search and recovery operation, working alongside local and international teams to retrieve the deceased and essential evidence for investigation.
Oladeji emphasized that the retrieval of the FDR and CVR, known as the aircraft’s “black box,” is a vital step in analyzing flight data and cockpit communications, which will provide crucial insights into the events leading up to the crash.
