Despite playing more than an hour with 10 men following Virgil van Dijk’s dismissal, Liverpool rebounded to defeat Newcastle 2-1 in the Premier League on Sunday thanks to substitute Darwin Nunez, who scored two late goals, including the game-winning goal in the third minute of stoppage time.

Nunez, a striker from Uruguay, spearheaded an incredible Liverpool comeback by tying the score in the 85th minute and then scored a nearly identical goal in stoppage time at St. James’ Park to secure Liverpool’s second straight win and maintain their unbeaten record.
Trent Alexander-Arnold of Liverpool, who committed a mistake that led to Gordon’s goal and played much the entire game under pressure after receiving a yellow card in the sixth minute, stated, “It was something special out there today.”

Alisson Becker’s remarkable first-half save to stop Miguel Almiron, who later struck a post, left Newcastle to lament wasted opportunities, but Jurgen Klopp’s team fought valiantly to extend their unbeaten streak against the Saudi-owned hosts to 14 games.
After the final whistle, as the 52,214 home supporters staggered off the field still unable to comprehend what they had just seen, Klopp erupted in jubilation in front of the home dugout and on the field.
While Newcastle has dropped both of its first three games of a season when the team returns to the Champions League, Liverpool has won seven out of a possible nine points and is two points behind leader Manchester City.
