Nottingham Forest, a Premier League team, announced on Wednesday that Nuno Espirito Santo has been named as the next manager.

Following Forest’s Tuesday dismissal of Steve Cooper, the 49-year-old Portuguese coach inked a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Midlands club.

Nuno made his comeback to English football this Saturday as Forest took on Bournemouth, his first game in charge since leaving Tottenham two years ago.

Nuno Espirito Santo has been appointed as the first team head coach of Nottingham Forest, the announcement from the Forest read. “Nuno will take charge of his first game on Saturday when Forest plays Bournemouth at The City Ground. He joins the club on a two-and-a-half-year contract.”

Nuno hasn’t had a job since leaving Al-Ittihad of the Saudi Pro League in November. However, he is back in the Premier League two years after being fired from Tottenham following a disastrous four-month stint.

Nuno also managed Wolves for four years, leading the team to promotion from the Championship in his first year of leadership.

Under Nuno’s direction, Wolves achieved back-to-back seventh-place finishes in the Premier League and advanced to the Europa League quarterfinals. Cooper was fired after Forest’s miserable run of just one victory in 13 Premier League games left them just one spot above the relegation zone. Nuno takes Cooper’s place.

Having lost five of their previous six games, Forest made his departure from the City Ground.

The 44-year-old brought Forest’s 23-year exile from the top flight to an end in 2022 when he led the team to promotion.
After leading Forest from the Championship’s bottom to Premier League survival the previous season, Cooper had managed to hold onto the loyalty of the Forest faithful.

However, Cooper’s summer of significant spending on new players failed to provide the necessary outcomes, and Forest’s Greek owner Evangelos Marinakis eventually lost faith in the former Swansea manager.
