Nine years after its last graduation ceremony, the Oyo State College of Nursing and Midwifery, Eleyele, Ibadan, held its convocation over the weekend, with a total of 900 students who graduated between 2010 and 2019.

The graduation ceremony, which climaxed the week-long 70th anniversary of the college, also witnessed presentation of certificates to the graduands by the school’s registrar, Mr. Abiodun Oni.

The Provost of the school, Mrs. Gbonjubola Owolabi, described the ceremony as a watershed, going by the timing and mass graduation of students covering 2010 to 2019.

She revealed that the college was faced with challenges of expanding the scope of training, injecting vitality into academic programmes and increasing human resources.

Owolabi, flanked by the Deputy Provost, Mrs. Iyabode Adeleke and the duo of HOD, Midwifery and Nursing, Mrs. Abiodun Ogunniran and Mrs. Medinat Adeniran respectively, hinted that streamlining courses in the college, in line with what is obtainable in polytechnics and other colleges of Nursing and Midwifery in Nigeria, was the preoccupation of the present management of the school.

While thanking the Oyo State Government for the support the college had received over the years, Owolabi also called for better funding of the college for all its laudable objectives and plans to be accomplished.

An alumnus of the school, Mr. Gaphar Ojetola, said the school’s 70th anniversary afforded the alumni the opportunity to hold a reunion ceremony, with the belief that they would rally support to restore the glory of the college.
