–Ojora of Ijora Accuses Dethroned Chiefs of Breaching Palace Protocols
The Ojora of Ijora and Iganmu Kingdom, Oba AbdulFatai Oyegbemi, has announced the dethronement of six traditional chiefs who reportedly flouted palace protocol by attending the Labour Party’s campaign flag-off in Apapa, without his approval.
The monarch, on Monday, convened a high-level palace meeting where he addressed the actions of the chiefs, accusing them of impersonating his royal authority at the event organized ahead of the forthcoming Lagos State local government elections.
Oba Oyegbemi expressed disappointment at what he described as a “gross violation of tradition and royal order.” He said the chiefs failed to seek permission before associating with any political gathering and that their presence at the LP campaign was unauthorized and misleading.
“They went to that event without my knowledge or consent. Worse still, they impersonated the palace by creating the impression that they were representing me,” the royal father declared.
The affected titleholders include:
-
Chief Taiwo Hassan (Bale Oke Ira)
-
Chief Saliu Biliamin (Bale Alafia Dodoro)
-
Chief Lateef Ojora (Bale Alaba Oro)
-
Chief Idris Ojora (Bale Abule Kere)
-
Chief Sule Balogun (Balogun of Abule Kere)
-
Chief Hakeem Oseni (Bale Mosafejo Amukoko)
In a formal statement issued by the palace, Oba Oyegbemi said the dethronement was necessary to uphold discipline and “ensure order and coherence within his leadership structure.”
“No one is above tradition. They acted in defiance of palace authority and must bear the consequences,” the monarch emphasized.
The move has sent shockwaves across the Ijora and Iganmu Kingdom, with residents and traditional watchers describing the action as bold, decisive, and necessary to protect the dignity of the throne.
