• President Bola Tinubu appoints Obinna Oriaku as Abia’s FCC Commissioner
• PDP praises appointment, citing integrity and competence despite political differences
• Oriaku known for vocal criticism of Governor Alex Otti’s administration
• Appointment announced by Presidential Adviser Bayo Onanuga

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed former Abia State Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Obinna Oriaku, as the Commissioner representing Abia State in the Federal Character Commission (FCC). The announcement was made on Monday in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

The appointment drew praise from the Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), whose Chairman, Abraham Amah, described it as “well merited,” highlighting Oriaku’s “integrity, competence, and commitment to public service,” despite him not being a PDP member.

Oriaku has been a persistent critic of Governor Alex Otti’s administration since 2023, challenging its financial policies, contract management, and transparency in pensions and gratuities. While he maintains that the previous administration he served managed state resources effectively, the current government disputes this, urging residents to dismiss his frequent commentaries.
