Debo Adebayo, also known as Mr Macaroni is a social media comedian, skit maker, actor and content creator with hundreds of thousands of followers.

He is most known for his comedy skit where he portrays Mr Macaroni, a character who portrays the lives of men who can’t seem to control themselves around women.

Following his involvement with the recent October 2020 #EndSARS and #EndSWAT protests by Nigerian youths, we have put together a list of facts about him.

  1. He used to Mimic Pastor Chris Oyakhilome

According to one of his interview with an online newspaper in Lagos , Mr Macaroni used to mimic Pastor Chris Oyakhilome of Christ EMbassy in his younger years, about the age of 6. He would watch the pastors services on TV and mimic all that was said when the TV program had ended. His imitations of Pastor Chris used to make his family laugh.

  1. MC Hammer is his fan

Yes, MC Hammer, the music legend is a fan of Mr Macaroni. In May 2020, he had done a skit about Coronavirus and MC Hammer commented on the skit saying, “Thank You for this hilarious PSA !!! We get it !!! #Coronavirus”. This gave the Social Media comedian international recognition for his hard work.

  1. He attended four universities

In his interview with Punch, Mr Macaroni commented on his peculiar situation surrounding his higher education and his journey to graduation.

He explained that he attended four universities. He left the first school where he studied law because the students had heard on TV that the schools Law program wasnt accredited. He left the school in his second year.

He went to another school in Cotonou where he attempted to study law again. Once more, his study there was cut short due to an issue he had with a lecturer.

The third time he attempted higher education was at a Private University in Ekiti State where he got admitted to study Theatre Arts. On getting there, he was informed that the university hadnt begun their Theatre Arts program yet and was offered English and Media Studies instead.

Mr Macaroni was not going to stay for it. He left in his second year.

His fourth and last school, Redeemer University, was where he found success, although not an easy one. He enjoyed his stay there until his final year where he was expelled for a social media post about the school. His parents sued the University and won. After this battle, Debo Adebayo finally graduated and went for his National Youth Service Corp NYSC) for one year which ended in March 2020.

  1. He gave himself the name “Mr Macaroni” for a movie role

Before he started making comedy skits, the internet sensation was already acting in movies and TV series. His stage name, Mr Macaroni originated from experience in one of these acting jobs, specifically the role of an extra in Face 2 Face.

The director of the series was not comfortable with leaving the character nameless, so he asked Debo to name the character himself. Debo named the character Mr Macaroni, noting that the character was funny and jovial.

  1. He is a foremost participant in the ongoing October 2020 #EndSARS Protests

In October 2020, the Nigerian youths woke up and decided that they were done being victims of police brutality, particularly from the Special Anti-Robbery Squad SARS). Mr Macaroni has been a foremost voice and participant in the protests which started one week ago.
