David Akinremi, the Amotekun Corps commander in Ogun State, has passed away.
According to family sources, Mr. Akinremi, a retired commissioner of police, passed away on Monday night.
Mr. Akinremi had a long history of suffering from an unidentified illness.
He was chosen by Governor Dapo Abiodun to lead the regional security organization in Ogun in 2021.
Soji Ganzallo, the commander of So Safe Corps, a state government security organization, called Mr. Akinremi’s death a “rude shock” despite the lack of official confirmation from the Corps or the deceased’s immediate family as of yet.
Mr. Ganzzallo referred to the dead as an icon who will be sorely missed in a statement that was made public.
In his eulogy, he remarked that Mr. Akinremi’s passing “could be likened to the sinking of the ‘unsinkable'” and that Ogun State had truly suffered a great loss.
“Since I first met the Commander, we have been friends and brothers, and up until his passing, he served as a mentor to my management team and I.
“Uncle Dave,” as I used to call him, was a very outgoing, direct, lovely, kind, generous, smart, cunning, flexible, clever, and adventurous person. He was a guy of integrity who loved Ogun State and all of Nigeria. He was also passionate about the security field.
“His passing has left a wound in our hearts that will never mend. And we won’t forget the part he played in defending Ogun State.
“In the meantime, we offer our condolences to the late Commander of Amotekun’s family as well as the Prince Dapo Abiodun CON-led Ogun State administration.
“We are aware that this is a significant loss. However, his selfless deeds and teamwork in enhancing Ogun State security at the local level will always be remembered.
