Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), located in Ijagun, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, has taken serious disciplinary measures against 78 students for a range of academic and behavioral violations. On Tuesday, the university’s Public Relations Office announced that 31 students have been expelled and 47 others placed on indefinite suspension.

One notable case involves Ojo Michael, a sophomore in the Computer Science Department, who has been expelled for the entire 2023/2024 academic year. This decision, made during a university Senate meeting on July 31, 2024, was due to Michael’s falsification of his Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) to fraudulently qualify for the Student Union elections.

In addition to Michael, 17 students were expelled for examination malpractice, five for issuing threats, and another for fraudulent activities. The sanctions followed thorough investigations by the university’s Examination Malpractice and Students’ Disciplinary Committee.

The university’s statement underscored its commitment to academic discipline and integrity, noting that the affected students have been instructed to remain off-campus to prevent potential confrontations with security personnel.

The Senate’s statement highlighted, “At its statutory meeting on July 31, 2024, the Senate approved the rustication of Ojo Michael, a 200-level student in the Computer Science Department, for the 2023/2024 academic session due to forgery of CGPA to contest the Student Union elections.”

Additionally, 47 students were suspended indefinitely for various offenses, including impersonation, and other punishments were meted out based on the recommendations of the Examination Malpractice and Students’ Disciplinary Committee.

The university emphasized that students guilty of misconduct will face strict consequences according to institutional regulations, reinforcing its dedication to maintaining a high standard of academic integrity and discipline.
