Tunji Wusu –
For public employees and pensioners in Ogun State, governor Dapo Abiodun has approved a cash palliative of N10,000 apiece to lessen the effects of the elimination of gasoline subsidies.
The governor stated that the distribution of the palliative will begin in July and last for three months in an interview with Channels Television on Tuesday, July 25.
Paying extra allowances, in his words, “is nothing novel or new to the system. Just in this case, we’ve created it in collaboration with our labor union’s members.
Simply put, we didn’t get out of bed one morning and decided to give them N10,000. We recently had a meeting with the TUC, JNC, and NLC. After several talks, we decided that N10,000 each level, from 1 to 17, would provide an instant respite for government employees and retirees who must travel daily.
