The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign council in Delta State was launched on Thursday with a call for party supporters to launch a ward-to-ward and unit-to-unit campaign strategy for the upcoming general election in 2023.
Speaking shortly after the party’s chairman, Olorogun Kingsley, inaugurated the new members, the state’s governor and chairman of the council, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, said that the PDP had made the decision at the national level that its campaign would be ward-to-ward focused.
Okowa, who is also running for vice president of the party, stated that the party’s candidate for governor will not be able to visit all 270 wards during the campaign due to time restrictions.
Therefore, he encouraged all political appointees and other stakeholders to leave the state capital Asaba for the campaign and to relocate to their wards and local government areas.
Beyond declaring victory for the state’s governorship and other candidates, Okowa stated, “we need to work harder to inform PDP that we are appreciative of the vice presidential candidate coming from the state.”
He commanded the party members not to disparage their rivals during campaigns, but to persuade them to work with the party to free the nation from the impasse the APC federal government had thrown it into.
Even the blind can sense our presence, the governor said, criticizing the state’s APC for failing to see the various historic achievements the state government has completed, including as the state Secretariat in Asaba, the storm drainage system, the road network, etc.
Prior to this, Sheriff Oborevwori, the party’s candidate for governor and speaker of the state assembly, praised Governor Okowa for his political cunning and how it has facilitated his campaigns.
“His government made ground-breaking advancements in the state’s road and physical infrastructure, urban redevelopment, entrepreneurship development for young, healthcare delivery, and vocational/technical education.
The only people who would have the audacity to suggest otherwise are those who are dishonest, blind, or both.
The candidate claimed that if elected, his strategy will be focused on building on and extending the successes of the current administration by extending the Okowa administration’s infrastructure and human capital development programs.
