Edo Governor-elect Monday Okpebholo has accused outgoing Governor Godwin Obaseki of obstructing a smooth power transition ahead of Tuesday’s swearing-in. Responding to Obaseki’s statement on Friday that he had yet to receive an invitation to the inauguration, Okpebholo described this as “absurd” and accused Obaseki of attempting to delay the handover process.

In a statement issued by his media aide, Godspower Inegbe, Okpebholo questioned Obaseki’s claims, asking, “Has Obaseki ever invited the governor-elect to the Government House for a meeting?” He urged Edo residents to ignore Obaseki’s remarks and stand by the incoming administration, which promises to correct issues left by the outgoing government.
