Former Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh, has praised Senegal forward Sadio Mane, describing him as a globally admired footballer due to his intelligence and calm leadership under pressure.

Oliseh made the remarks while reflecting on Mane’s decisive intervention during Senegal’s Africa Cup of Nations final victory over Morocco on Sunday. The former Liverpool star played a pivotal leadership role at a tense moment in the match when Senegal players walked toward the dressing room following referee Jean-Jacques Ndala’s decision to award Morocco a penalty after Brahim Diaz was fouled in the box.

Rather than allowing emotions to derail the contest, Mane stepped in, urging his teammates to return to the pitch and refocus on the game. The intervention proved crucial as Senegal maintained their composure and went on to secure the title.

Speaking on CAF TV, Oliseh said Mane’s ability to remain composed in high-pressure situations explains his widespread admiration across the football world.

“This is why Sadio Mane is loved worldwide, because of his intelligence and the ability to stay calm,” Oliseh said.

He added that Mane’s journey through challenges in his career has shaped him into a role model, noting that the forward’s conduct in the final epitomised true leadership.

“This is a man who has been through a lot of challenges in his playing career. I think Mane is a hero and an example people should imitate,” Oliseh stated.
