Omoyele Sowore bail revoked after a Federal High Court in Abuja ruled that the African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate breached the conditions of his release by failing to appear for trial.
Justice Mohammed Garba Umar revoked Sowore’s bail on Tuesday after he was absent from court during proceedings.
Prosecuting counsel, Kehinde Akinlolu (SAN), told the court that Sowore was fully aware of the hearing date but failed to attend. He urged the court to withdraw the defendant’s bail, alleging that Sowore had repeatedly taken steps that delayed the trial.
However, the court noted that Sowore had submitted a letter requesting an adjournment. Justice Umar said the application did not provide any reason for the request.
Consequently, the judge granted the prosecution’s application and ordered that the bail be revoked.
The Omoyele Sowore bail revoked decision marks a significant development in the ongoing case involving the former presidential candidate and activist.
Meanwhile, Justice Umar adjourned the matter until June 22, 2026, when proceedings are expected to continue.
The Omoyele Sowore bail revoked ruling now places fresh attention on the next stage of the trial and whether the defendant will appear before the court on the new hearing date.
