The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) youth wing in Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State has urged party leaders in the local government to draw a sword and end any internal conflicts plaguing the party before they become “messier” as the 2023 elections draw near.

The youngsters gave the outraged leaders a week to resolve their dilemma or face their wrath, they said at a press conference held at the party secretariat in Alagbaka, Akure, over the weekend.

Following the party primaries, the local government PDP has been dealing with internal strife involving, among others, Eyitayo Jegede, the 2020 state PDP governorship candidate, the former deputy governor of the state, Omolade Oluwateru, and the PDP chairman in the local government area.

Speaking at the occasion, Mr. Ajayi Olorunlogbon, the youth leader for Akure South Local Government Area, voiced his disgust with the crisis and urged the leaders to put down their swords in order to achieve the party’s victory in 2023.

Mr. Adekanbi Oluwatuyi, another Youth Leader, asserted that political party members should share a common goal of gaining, maintaining, and managing political power on behalf of the people. He claimed that party divisions in the local government could reduce the party’s influence during elections.

He said, “From the youth perspective, we want to warn everyone who is benefiting from this catastrophe, regardless of position or age. We are pleading with them to stop because achieving unity takes all of us working together and pushing for it. We will deal with you as soon as we identify you if you think you could start an issue in this party.
