Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ooni of Ife, granted scholarships to 50 kids chosen among those who attended his palace’s Christmas gala for children on Tuesday.
Oba Ogunwusi, while receiving students from basic and secondary schools, as well as schools for people with special needs, at his Ile Oodua Palace in Ile-Ife, exhorted the pupils to choose good mentors in society.
The monarch urged the children to stay focused on their education, imbibe the spirit of hard work, and look up to good people with impeccably virtuous character as role models, speaking through his queen, Olori Temitope Adesegun-Ogunwusi, who also serves as CEO of the Ooni’s NGO, Hopes Alive Initiatives.
“While you listen to music, watch movies, and mingle, pick from what I have,” said Moses Olafare, the royal father’s spokesperson, quoting Ogunwusi gained in Osogbo.
“Kabiyesi cannot wait to hear and enjoy your success tales in the foreseeable future, thus he is asking you to do right and do right at all times.
“To our fathers and mothers present, we must teach our children to fear God. When a youngster fears God, he or she will be conscientious, hardworking, and obedient to their parents and all other people with whom they come into contact.”
According to the release, the 50 award recipients were chosen after cultural and academic presentations by the students.
