Operation FANSAN YAMMA: Major Blow to Terrorism as Troops Kill Terrorist Leader’s Son and Destroy Key Camp

In a major blow to terrorist activities, troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, with support from air forces, launched a successful operation on January 17, leading to the deaths of numerous terrorists, including the son of infamous terrorist leader Bello Turji. The operation, which targeted the Shinkafi, Kagara, Fakai, Moriki, Maiwa, and Chindo areas, culminated in a fierce battle at the Fakai high ground, where terrorists had sought refuge.

According to Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, the operation inflicted significant casualties on the terrorists and resulted in the destruction of their logistics hub. Additionally, several hostages previously held by Turji were rescued. Notably, in a cowardly act, Bello Turji fled the scene, abandoning his son and other fighters.

In a related operation, security forces dismantled a camp belonging to another terrorist leader, Idi Mallam, in the Zango Kagara Forest. During the engagement, three terrorists were neutralized, and three suspected collaborators were apprehended. The troops also recovered valuable weapons, including two machine guns, an AK-47 rifle with ammunition, and rescued 61 rustled cattle and 44 sheep.

The Defence Media Operations praised the troops for their sustained efforts to protect citizens and reiterated the military’s ongoing commitment to eradicating terrorism in the country. This operation further underscores the determination of security forces to restore peace and stability to the affected regions.
