The All Progressives Congress (APC) has suspended Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, the senator for Abia North, less than 24 hours before the National Assembly election due to alleged anti-party activities and other offenses.

In a letter informing Kanu of his suspension, the APC stated that it was effective right away.

On claims that the former governor of Abia has been undermining and sabotaging the party in the state, Kalu has been at odds with the Abia APC leadership and people.

The former governor of Abia was suspended for “acts of disobedience and flagrant anti-party activity,” according to a letter dated February 21.

According to the letter jointly signed by the State Chairman, Dr. Kingsley Ononogbu; State Secretary, Chief Chidi Avajah; and Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee, Paul Nwabuisi, Kalu, who has had disagreements with many APC leaders in Abia, “has remained unrepentant and without remorse despite several warnings,”

After “thorough investigations and recommendations of the Disciplinary Committee established by the Igbere Ward A in Bende Local Government of Abia State,” according to the APC, Kalu was suspended.

The Abia APC leadership added that Kalu’s suspension was justified by his violation of Article 21B(i-v) of the APC Constitution.

You are hereby suspended from the All Progressives Congress (APC), according to the letter, in part.

The former governor is alleged to have worked against Chief Ikechi Emenike, an APC candidate for governor.

Also, he is alleged to have supported the Action Peoples Party (APP) against the Abia APC, where his younger brother Mascot Uzor Kalu is running for governor.

In the meantime, Kalu officially acknowledged and defended backing and promoting the candidacy of his younger brother, Mascot, stating he is qualified to run the state, in an interview last Tuesday.

Moreover, Kalu asserted that the APC candidate for governor never formally told him that he was running for office.

In addition, he claimed that Emenike had resisted working for him because of years of abuse and unresolved animosity between them.

The Senate Chief Whip was referred to by the Abia APC as a drowning political desperado who was fervently trying to ruin the party for his own personal gain.
