Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, believes that religious leaders in Nigeria must remain approachable while working to bring people together across divisions in socioeconomic class, political affiliation, and religious belief.
This was said by Prof. Osinbajo on Tuesday at the Presidential Villa when he welcomed a team from the Methodist Church of Nigeria led by its Prelate-Elect, Most Rev. Oliver Ali Aba, in audience. The team arrived to inform the Vice President of the Prelate-upcoming Elect’s investiture in Lagos the following month.
The immediate former governor of Bauchi State, Barr. Mohammed Abubakar, who is involved in the planning of the investiture and also enabled the visit of the delegation to the Vice President, was with the Prelate-Elect, according to a statement by his media assistant, Laolu Akande.

The Vice President stressed the necessity for religious leaders to be open at all times, accommodating all different interests and viewpoints regardless of religious or sociopolitical backgrounds in his speech on the challenge facing the nation’s religious leaders.
He said, “As believers, we must be inclusive and reach out to everyone. It is crucial that you reach out to everyone in the interest of unity since Christ died for everyone. How to ensure that we can demonstrate Christ’s love for others to observe and imitate is one of the responsibilities of Christian leadership.

Recalling remarks made (about battling corruption inside and outside the church) in an interview that were ascribed to the Prelate-elect. A major shortcoming in our nation, according to Osinbajo, is a lack of integrity. There are no perfect strategies or budgets because corruption undermines both.

Additionally, he discussed what is frequently preached in churches. The VP said that “leaders sometimes push more giving within the church without discussing integrity.”

Osinbajo declared his unwavering support for the incoming Methodist leader as he assumes the Prelate position next month.
