Babatunji Wusu –
According to a senior member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) nominee for president in 2023, made “a token appearance” in Plateau State.
Recall that on December 24, 2023, armed bandits attacked the internally displaced people in the Plateau State local government areas of Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi, where Obi just paid a visit.
In order to aid those escaping, Obi promised 5 million naira to every local government area impacted, accompanied by representatives of the state party.
In response, Osoba stated in a Tuesday interview with Arise News that Obi was only acting in his role to forge strong and important connections.
According to Osoba, Obi and other opposition figures are playing the part expected of them, and this is not surprising since the ACN did the same thing under the Goodluck Jonathan administration. He said Obi’s visit would help the ruling party examine their statements and declarations to see if any information uncovered would be advantageous.
He said: “For the opposition parties, that is their role. There must be robust engagements. If they don’t engage us robustly, how would we know some of our shortcomings and challenges? When Obi went to Plateau for a token appearance, it was part of the robust engagement.
“When we were in ACN we robustly engaged Goodluck Jonathan heavily. So, they are playing the role expected of the opposition. What do you expect of them? We are in government and they throw punches. We would defend the punches and where necessary, we give a little brushing of their faces too.
“But I agree that they are within the barns of opposition in a way that they are being critical and we analyze their statements, and reactions and see if whatever we find will be useful.”
