Babatunji Wusu –
According to information obtained by Naija News, robbers recently attacked the Bali Local Government Area in Taraba State, killing no fewer than eighteen hunters.
It was said that on Tuesday, a party of fifteen hunters lost their lives while valiantly battling the robbers close to Maihula town.
The hunters held their ground and battled the robbers, who numbered over 200, in a bloody gunfight, thwarting their plans to attack Bali town and the nearby villages.
15 hunters lost their lives as a result of the robbers’ ability to neutralize them with more sophisticated weapons.
Journalists were told by a local, Musa Umar, that the altercation claimed the lives of fourteen hunters and injured a number of others.
Sadly, one of the wounded hunters died en route to Jalingo Hospital, increasing the death toll to fifteen. The Chairman of the Hunters Association in Taraba State, Adamu Dantala, confirmed the attack by telling reporters that he had lost fifteen of his members in the fight with the robbers.
Three hunters were also attacked and slain by the bandits in the Bali Local Government Area, close to Dakka town.
Dantala was reported by Daily Trust as saying, “We need government and community support to fully armed us the hunters, because we are not given any funds to support families of those killed or treat those injured.”
The bandits broke into the Kur Bali Chiefdom, Alhaji Mahamud Abubakar, and tried to take over Bali town, but the hunters stopped them, killing fifteen of them. This information was provided to Daily Trust by the chiefdom.
As of the time this report was filed, the state police command had not, however, replied to the recent attacks.
