Babatunji Wusu –
On Sunday, the Everlasting Arms Parish, Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) in Garki, Abuja, distributed food items, shoes, and clothing to 2,000 vulnerable residents of the city. The annual event, known as the Tabitha Tent Programme, started in 2007, aims to provide humanitarian support during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
Beneficiaries’ Reactions
The recipients expressed deep appreciation for the items they received. Mr. Gonet Jato, one of the beneficiaries, thanked the church for the rice, beans, and other provisions, which would support his family during the holiday season. He also called on the government to do more to alleviate the suffering of the poor.
Ms. Happiness Jacob and Ms. Victoria Ola also expressed their gratitude, urging the government to assist the less fortunate, especially during the Christmas season, as many people are struggling to find food and basic necessities.
Pastor’s Call for Social Support
Pastor Everistus Azodo, the parish’s pastor, stressed the importance of social safety nets, urging well-to-do Nigerians to support the poor. He noted that in many developed countries, welfare systems help the poor, but Nigeria lacks a similar framework.
Azodo emphasized that the Tabitha Tent programme aims to provide food, clothing, and support to people of all backgrounds, helping those who struggle to afford basic necessities.
Church’s Skill Acquisition Programs
Mrs. Modupe Ogundimu, a coordinator of the programme, highlighted that the church also runs a skill acquisition programme, aiming to help vulnerable individuals develop skills and become self-reliant. She expressed thanks to all the donors and supporters who made the programme a success.
Through Tabitha Tent, the Redeemed Christian Church continues to support the underprivileged, embodying the spirit of giving, especially during the festive season.
