Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has strongly criticized Marcus Rashford for his attitude, claiming the out-of-favor forward has let down his teammates. Scholes, speaking on The Overlap Fan Debate, expressed his belief that Rashford’s behavior is damaging to the team and that he should be “banished” from the dressing room to set a better example for younger players like Alejandro Garnacho.
Rashford, who has not played for United since December 12, has been left out of the squad by manager Ruben Amorim for all matches except one, where he was an unused substitute. Amorim has openly suggested that he would prefer having 63-year-old goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital in the squad over the 27-year-old forward, citing concerns over Rashford’s perceived lack of effort.
Scholes shared a personal reflection from his own career, recalling advice from former manager Sir Alex Ferguson about not letting down teammates, which Scholes says applies to Rashford’s current situation. While not outright refusing to play, Scholes argues that Rashford’s attitude and training habits show a lack of commitment to the team.
Scholes’ remarks follow similar comments from former United defender Rio Ferdinand, who declared there is “no way back” for Rashford at the club following Amorim’s criticisms. Rashford, who expressed a desire for a “new challenge” in December, has been linked with moves to Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund, and AC Milan. However, any potential transfer is complicated by Rashford’s reported £300,000-a-week salary and contract running until 2028.
